Chassis Department Facilities
Every chassis that is raced by Hendrick Motorsports is manufactured in-house. On average, the Hendrick chassis team fabricates 40 cars each year.
In addition to constructing new bodies, the department is responsible for re-building and maintaining chassis that are preferred by the drivers and repairing cars that are crashed during any race weekend or test.
The department is made up of about 60 employees divided into three sections: sheet metal, chassis-building/engineering, and R & D.
The production of a single chassis is composed of roughly 200 pieces. The team runs much like an assembly line, with 20 different work stations, which start construction from 25-foot steel tubes.
