Gordon Wins at ‘Dega

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 25, 2004) – Jeff Gordon drove his No. 24 DuPont/Pepsi Chevrolet to Victory Lane on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, winning his first race of the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series season and moving to third in the championship standings. Gordon was just ahead of teammate Jimmie Johnson, who finished fourth in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevy and vaulted to second in points, 84 markers back of leader Dale Earnhardt Jr. Driving the No. 5 Kellogg’s Monte Carlo, Terry Labonte finished 25th, followed by 27th-place Brian Vickers in the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet. Labonte is now 24th in the standings, while Vickers is ranked 26th.
