CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (April 7, 2004) – If it’s Easter weekend coming up on the calendar, then it must be time for Terry Labonte’s annual charity motorcycle ride through South Texas.
The third annual Terry Labonte/Roam for a Home, to benefit Ronald McDonald House and other Coastal Bend charities, will begin Thursday morning, April 8. The “Roam” concludes two days later with an arrival party, motorcycle raffle and auction in downtown Corpus Christi.
Since its inception in 2002, the Roam has been timed to coincide with the Easter holiday, one of the few off-weekends of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series schedule. This year’s official kickoff will take place Wednesday evening, April 7, with a reception at the Ronald McDonald House in Corpus Christi.
The actual ride, including more than 100 participants, will roll off from Champion Chevrolet the morning of April 8 and travel north to San Antonio, where the entourage will spend Thursday night.
Friday brings a 200-mile ride through Texas’ famed “Hill Country,” including a stop in Utopia, Texas, and then a return to San Antonio.
Saturday morning, the final leg of the ride leads to a noon arrival at Labonte Park back in Corpus Christi and then the 2 p.m. finale at the Concrete Street Amphitheater. It is there the winning ticket in the Harley-Davidson raffle will be drawn by Labonte himself. A number of NASCAR items and other memorabilia also will be auctioned at that time.
Labonte is currently 23rd in the NEXTEL Cup standings and will return to competition at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on April 18.
