FORT WORTH, Texas (April 1, 2004) – Kyle Busch nabbed the second NASCAR Busch Series pole position of his young career on Thursday, posting the quickest lap in qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway.
Driving the No. 5 Lowe’s/Gladiator Chevrolet, Busch’s 189.847-mph lap was enough to beat our former Busch Series champions Greg Biffle, David Green and Joe Nemechek, who will start second, third and fourth, respectively.
“These Lowe's guys do an awesome job,” Busch said of his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team. “We always have a lot of fun coming out here to these places like this -- Lowe's Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Atlanta -- most of my favorite tracks.
“I definitely have a lot of fun when we come to these places.”
Busch, who is eighth in championship points while leading the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings, also earned the pole position at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway just two races ago.
The 18-year-old is the only repeat pole winner in six Busch Series qualifying sessions so far this season.
Saturday’s O’Reilly 300 will be broadcast live by FOX (2 p.m. ET) and PRN (1:30 p.m. ET).
