CONCORD, N.C. -- Jeff Gordon returned to virtual track Saturday for the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series at the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway.
In just his second iRacing event, the four-time Cup Series champion finished 18th in the race. He was one of two drivers who participated in the iRacing event who has raced in a Cup Series event at the track before it closed down.
"It was the perfect way to end the Pro Invitational Series before we head to Darlington," Gordon said.
Gordon rolled off the grid in 23rd in the classic rainbow Axalta scheme that adorned his car when he won in North Wilkesboro's last race in 1996. By lap 20 he was in 19th place and three cautions later and 42 laps in Gordon was up to 15th. He was able to get up to 14th after the fourth caution of the race.
Almost halfway through the fifth caution came out. Gordon wasn't affected and was able to slide up to 10th, but a couple laps later he was down to 13th.
With 60 laps to go Gordon was in 18th place and he slipped another spot to 19th with less than 40 laps left. He was tapped by another driver with 25 laps to go, but managed to stay in the top 20 for the rest of the race.
Denny Hamlin won the final iRacing event.
