Busch Champ Staying Busy in NYC

NEW YORK (Dec. 4, 2003) – Brian Vickers visited the NBC studios in New York today, just one of a number of appearances the 20-year-old NASCAR Busch Series champion will make this week. Vickers will be featured on ESPN2’s “Cold Pizza” morning show on Friday at 7:30 a.m. ET, followed by a one-hour guest spot on the QVC network beginning at 9 p.m. ET. After joining his GMAC Racing team for a championship celebration, the Thomasville, N.C., native was finally able to sit down with his family for a belated Thanksgiving meal on Monday evening. Vickers visited General Motors in Detroit on Tuesday, followed by a trip to New York to attend a movie premiere and take part in a photo shoot for Stuff magazine on Wednesday. “I’m still trying to catch my breath,” said Vickers, who will also be featured on one of four special covers for the next issue of TV Guide (Dec. 6-12). “Things have remained pretty busy for me, which has probably slowed the effect of the championship sinking in. “I’m sure everything will hit me soon. I still wake up every morning thinking about the championship and what an accomplishment it was for our team. “Whenever someone mentions us as the champions, I smile like it’s Christmas.” Vickers will return to North Carolina on Saturday with hopes of taking a short break before gearing up for February’s Daytona 500. “I’m going to take some time to just get away for a few days to relax,” Vickers said. “I’ll turn off my cell phone and try not to think about racing. “After that, I’ll just use the time I have to catch up on some things I’ve been putting off and visit family and friends. As much as I love the sport, there comes a time when you just need to recharge the batteries and start fresh. “It’s not going to take too long before I’m itching to get back into the car again.”
