RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 5, 2003) – Jeff Gordon was the quickest Hendrick Motorsports driver in Chevy Rock & Roll 400 qualifying at Richmond International Raceway on Friday, posting the fifth-best time overall.
Driving the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, Gordon was clocked at 125.035 mph (21.594 seconds), giving him three top-five starts in his last five events, including pole positions at Watkins Glen, N.Y., and Bristol, Tenn.
Gordon was followed by teammates Joe Nemechek, 11th; Jimmie Johnson, 26th; and Terry Labonte, 32nd.
With a lap of 125.792 mph, Mike Skinner earned the pole -- his first of the season -- for Saturday night’s NASCAR Winston Cup Series event.
The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 will be broadcast live on TNT and MRN Radio beginning at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
