CONCORD, N.C. -- Chase Elliott finished third in Sunday's Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, marking the first time in five years he's participated in the Super Late Model event.

Elliott started in 31st after he scored on of the four remaining transfer spots through the Last Chance qualifying race on Saturday. He worked his way through the field and broke into the top 10 in the first 90 laps of the 300-lap event.

By the second competition caution on lap 195, Elliott was up to seventh. He spent the final 77 laps inside the top five and was riding between second and fourth place in the final 50 circuits.

The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion was in second with 15 laps to go, but he slipped to third as the event was winding down, finishing in that spot.

Ty Majeski won the race after holding off Derek Thorn in the final laps.

Elliott crossed the finish line first during his last Snowball Derby appearance in 2015. He won the Super Late Model race for the first time in 2011.
