FOUNTAIN, Colo. (July 25, 2003) – Driving the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, Brian Vickers earned his best starting position of the 2003 season during NASCAR Busch Series time trials at Pikes Peak International Raceway on Friday.
Vickers qualified fourth, running a speed of 132.719 mph (27.125 seconds) around the one-mile oval, earning his fifth consecutive top-10 start and the team’s 11th top-10 start of the 2003 season.
“I knew we’d be pretty good,” Vickers said. “We picked up quite a bit (of time) from the morning’s practice session. The track really cooled off for qualifying which allowed everyone to pick up a lot of time.
“Our qualifying efforts have gotten a lot better during the past few weeks and we need to continue to start toward the front if we’re going to stay in contention for this championship.”
Bobby Hamilton Jr. will start on the pole for the 250-mile event after chalking up a 133.319-mph speed (27.003 seconds). Busch Series points leader David Green will start 11th.
The TrimSpa 250 is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. ET start on Saturday, July 26 and will be broadcast live from Pikes Peak International Raceway on MRN Radio and NBC.
