INDIANOPOLIS (July 15, 2003) – More than two-dozen NASCAR Winston Cup Series teams tested Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday, including three from Hendrick Motorsports that all finished in the top 10. Jimmie Johnson, Joe Nemechek and Terry Labonte were fifth, sixth and 10th respectively on the IMS speed charts. Team Lowe’s Racing posted a speed of 176.758 mph as Johnson put 113 laps on his No. 48 Chevrolet, while Nemechek, driver the UAW-Delphi Monte Carlo, was clocked at 176.298 mph. His 137 laps were the most of any driver during the session. Labonte put 69 laps on the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Chevy, with a speed of 175.419 mph. Todd Bodine was the quickest (178.879 mph) of 26 drivers, followed by John Andretti and Jimmy Spencer. The NASCAR Winston Cup Series will visit the 2.5-mile speedway on Aug. 3 for the Brickyard 400.
