Vickers Qualifies Ninth at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2003) – Driving the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, Brian Vickers posted the ninth-best lap during NASCAR Busch Series time trials at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday. Vickers, 19, ran a speed of 184.847 mph (48.689 seconds) around the 2.5-mile tri-oval, earning his eighth top-10 start of the 2003 season. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start on the pole for Friday’s 250-mile event after chalking up a 186.308-mph speed (48.307 seconds). The Winn-Dixie 250 presented by PepsiCo is scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET start on Friday, July 4 and will be broadcast live from Daytona on MRN Radio and TNT.
