BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 13, 2003) – Terry Labonte earned his third top-10 start in the last five races, qualifying fifth for Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at Michigan International Speedway.
Labonte turned a lap of 188.689 mph in the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Chevrolet as Hendrick Motorsports placed all four Winston Cup teams within the top six rows.
Driving the No. 24 DuPont Chevy, Jeff Gordon was just behind Labonte, posting the sixth-best lap at 188.541 mph.
Jimmie Johnson will start 11th in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet after tying teammate Joe Nemechek’s lap of 188.044 mph. Nemechek will start 12th in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy.
Bobby Labonte earned the pole position at MIS with a lap of 190.365 mph in the No. 18 Monte Carlo.
Sunday’s event at Michigan is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. ET green flag.
