BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 13, 2003) – Kyle Busch will start second in Saturday's ARCA Series race at Michigan International Speedway after posting a record-breaking lap of 186.073 mph in the No. 87 ditech.com Chevrolet during time trials on Friday.
The 18-year-old held the pole position and track record as more than 20 drivers qualified before NASCAR Winston Cup Series regular Casey Mears posted a quicker lap in the No. 77 entry after the track had cooled a full eight degrees since the No. 87’s run.

PRACTICE NOTE: Busch was quicker than any car on the race track before ARCA and Winston Cup qualifying on Friday. The Las Vegas native not only paced ARCA practice with a lap of 188.932 mph, but was also faster than Bobby Labonte, who led Cup practice at 188.024 mph.
