SPARTA, Ky. (June 13, 2003) – Brian Vickers and the GMAC Racing team qualified 19th on Friday for Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series event at Kentucky Speedway.
Despite an early qualifying draw and warmer track temperatures than most teams experienced during their qualifying runs, Vickers is confident things will be just fine when it comes time to race.
"Sure, we'd like to have qualified better, but I know we have a car that will race well," Vickers said. "There's plenty of room to pass at Kentucky and I know the guys will give me their best effort in the pits like they have all year."
Vickers’ lap of 171.794 mph will allow him to start in the preferred inside lane in Row 10 alongside Mike Harmon, driver of the No. 44 Chevrolet.
Stacy Compton, driver of the No. 59 Chevrolet, grabbed the pole position and set a new track record with a lap of 176.384 mph.
Live coverage of the race will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on the FX television network and MRN Radio.
