BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 13, 2003) – Terry Labonte was the quickest Hendrick Motorsports driver in NASCAR Winston Cup Series pre-qualifying practice at Michigan International Speedway on Friday, posting the fourth-best lap of 45 cars on the race track.
Driving the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Chevy, the two-time champion saved his best for last, with the car’s best numbers (38.419 seconds, 187.407 mph) coming on the final lap of practice. Labonte ran a total of eight circuits, the least of any driver in the session.
Jeff Gordon was 10th in the No. 24 DuPont Chevy, with Joe Nemechek 11th in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Monte Carlo and Jimmie Johnson 14th in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet.
Bobby Labonte paced the session at 188.024 mph in the No. 18 Chevy.
Winston Cup time trials are scheduled for Friday at 3:05 p.m. ET.
