DOVER, Del. (May 30, 2003) – Brian Vickers and the GMAC Racing team put together their best qualifying effort in five races Friday afternoon at Dover International Speedway.
Vickers lap of 154.646 mph was good enough for the 13th-place starting position. He will start on the inside of Row 7, next to NASCAR Busch Series leader Todd Bodine.
"We slowed down just a little bit from our practice session earlier today, but the car drove really well,” Vickers said. “Based upon how good the car felt, I honestly thought we had put down a faster lap than we did.
“I’m not complaining, though, because it’s important to start near the front at Dover because things can get dicey toward the back.”
Vickers has only made one career Busch Series start at Dover, finishing 13th during last fall’s race at the one mile-oval.
Joe Nemechek, driver the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, nabbed the pole position and set a new track record with a lap of 156.747 mph in his own No. 87 Chevrolet.
Live coverage of the Busch Series event from Dover International Speedway will begin Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EDT on FX and MRN Radio.
