NAZARETH, Pa. (May 17, 2003) – After qualifying 21st the last two weeks, Brian Vickers and the GMAC Racing team broke the trend and qualified 15th for Sunday's NASCAR Busch Series event at Nazareth Speedway.
"As tough as this place is to get around, and having never been here before, I'm happy with the effort," Vickers said. "It's a little better than where we've qualified the last couple of weeks, which means we should finish better."
Prior to Friday morning's first practice session, Vickers had never competed at the one-mile oval. With a lap of 130.548 mph, the No. 5 Chevy will start on the inside of Row 8, next to Mark Green.
Randy LaJoie, driver the No. 7 Chevrolet, won the pole by blazing to a track record of 133.215 mph, breaking the old mark by nearly one mile per hour.
Live coverage of the Busch Series event from Nazareth Speedway will begin at 1 p.m. EST beginning on FX.
