CONCORD, N.C. – Chase Elliott has proven himself as one of the top drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series with 12 wins, 67 top-five finishes, and 106 top-10 placements in his seven-year career, including the 2020 Cup Series championship.
Due to his impressive on-track performance, ESPN has nominated Elliott for Best Driver for the 2021 ESPYS, along with three other drivers in all of motor sports, including Formula 1 and the IndyCar Series.
“It’s just an honor to be considered for an ESPY,” Elliott said. “I haven’t been doing this stuff near as long as drivers like Lewis (Hamilton) and Scott (Dixon). I’m not sure I even belong on the same list as them and Erica (Enders), but it is such an honor to be there and be considered.”
This season, reigning champion Elliott has captured one win, eight top-five finishes and 10 top-10s in his 16 points-paying starts. The Dawsonville native currently ranks third in the points standings, just 73 markers behind the leader, and has locked himself into the playoffs with his win at Circuit of the Americas win in May.
“Regardless of how it works out, I’ll certainly always be appreciative of being considered for something like this,” Elliott said.
