CONCORD, N.C. – On Saturday, Nov. 13, former Hendrick Motorsports driver Jimmie Johnson will compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Motul Petit Le Mans. Set to run at Road Atlanta, Johnson will reunite with IMSA teammates Simon Pagenaud and Kamui Kobayashi in the No. 48 Ally Cadillac.
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Johnson has spent several hours at the road course with former crew chief and current Hendrick Motorsports vice president of competition Chad Knaus, turning laps in preparation for the endurance event at the Braselton, Georgia, course.
The No. 48 teammates will take turns driving in the 10-hour race as they make their rounds on the 2.54-mile circuit. Johnson and his team will face off against six other teams in the DPi-V.R division this Saturday.
“I am really excited for this weekend’s race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta,” Johnson said. “I really enjoyed the two days of testing we had there a few weeks back. Although I have been there before in a Cup car, the lap times were about 20-23 seconds a lap slower than what I experienced in the Ally Cadillac DPi-V.R. So, the two days were very useful to me to learn the racetrack and get a good feel for things.”
Johnson retired from full-time NASCAR Cup Series racing at the end of the 2020 season and stepped into IndyCar and IMSA endurance racing in 2021. Saturday’s race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will be Johnson’s fourth endurance race with the Action Express team.
Tune in this Saturday at noon ET on NBC to watch Johnson and his teammates on the No. 48 Ally Action Express team in action for the 10-hour event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.
