DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2003) – It didn’t take long for Brian Vickers to adapt to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
Vickers, driving the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, posted the fastest lap during Friday’s final “Happy Hour” practice before Saturday’s NASCAR Busch Series event at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. With a fast lap of 189.837 mph, the 19-year-old was two-tenths faster than Coy Gibbs in the No. 18 entry.
Friday’s afternoon practice was the last chance for the GMAC Racing team to make adjustments to the No. 5 Chevrolet prior to the Busch Series season opener. It will be Vickers’ first-ever start at Daytona.
The Koolerz 300 will begin at 1 p.m. EST on Saturday and can be seen live on FOX beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST. Vickers will start the race from the 21st position.
