Vickers Qualifies 21st at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2003) – Brian Vickers, driving the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, was 21st-quickest during Wednesday’s NASCAR Busch Series qualifying session at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Vickers’ speed of 183.210 mph was the fastest time posted by the GMAC team since arriving in Daytona. “I would have liked to start inside the top 20, but it’s still the fastest we’ve run since we’ve been here,” Vickers said. “The guys on the team worked really hard to make the car better from when we tested here in January until now. “Now it’s time to shift our attention to the race on Saturday where I think we’ll be strong.” Vickers will start next to Mike Wallace on the inside of Row 11 for the Koolerz 300 on Saturday. Joe Nemechek, who drives the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, nabbed the pole position with a lap of 186.050 mph in his own No. 87 Chevrolet.
