Johnson Quick in Rockingham Happy Hour

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2002) -- Jimmie Johnson led all four Hendrick Motorsports teams in Saturday’s two NASCAR Winston Cup Series practices at North Carolina Speedway, putting more than 100 laps on his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet in preparation for Sunday’s Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400. The rookie was fifth overall in the early session and fourth in the final “Happy Hour” practice at the 1.017-mile Rockingham, N.C., race track. In the day’s first practice, Jeff Gordon followed Johnson in 10th overall, with Joe Nemechek 22nd and Terry Labonte 40th. Driving the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevrolet, Nemechek was 24th in Happy Hour, with Gordon 30th in the No. 24 DuPont Monte Carlo and Labonte 36th in the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevy. Rusty Wallace posted the fastest lap in the early 45-minute session, with Todd Bodine first overall in final practice. Sunday’s Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400 is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET green flag at North Carolina Speedway.
