BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2002) -- Jeff Gordon earned his second consecutive NASCAR Winston Cup Series pole position at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Friday in the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet.
The four-time Winston Cup champion earned the first Sharpie 500 starting spot with a lap of 15.470 seconds and 124.034 mph, .012 seconds ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won the second position.
Joe Nemechek will start 20th in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy, Terry Labonte 24th in the No. 5 Kellogg’s Monte Carlo and Jimmie Johnson 32nd in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet.
The Sharpie 500 is scheduled for an 8 p.m. green flag at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 24.
