Johnson Leads HMS at Watkins Glen Qualifying

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 9, 2002) -- Jimmie Johnson was the quickest Hendrick Motorsports driver in NASCAR Winston Cup Series qualifying at Watkins Glen International on Friday. The driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet posted the 12th-best lap of the afternoon at 72.329 seconds and 121.943 mph. Jeff Gordon will start 23rd in the No. 24 DuPont Monte Carlo, Joe Nemechek 33rd in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy and Terry Labonte 38th in the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet. Ricky Rudd earned the pole position with a lap of 122.696 mph and 71.885 seconds. The Sirius Satellite Radio @ The Glen is scheduled for a 1 p.m. EDT start time on Sunday and will be carried live on NBC and MRN Radio.
