Elliott rolled off in the 13th position and ran around that spot throughout the first 20-lap segment. By the end of stage one, he earned an 12th-place finish. Stage two was a similar story as the No. 17 HendrickCars.com entry took the green-checkered flag from the 11th position. However, stage three took a different route.
On lap 80, a caution flag flipped fuel strategy for the entire field. Elliott had already brought his race car down pit road for four tires and fuel on lap 70, so he chose to stay out under the yellow flag. The ensuing restart took place with six laps to go. Under the green flag, the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevy slipped back to sixth by the time another caution came out, sending the race to overtime.
For the final restart, Elliott was able to capitalize on chaos in front of him and avoid the late-race carnage. A caution came out for an incident further back as the leader entered turn three, resulting in the conclusion of the race. The Dawsonville, Georgia, native was scored third when the race was deemed official.
Saturday's top-three finish was the third result within the top-three positions for the No. 17 HendrickCars.com team this year. In March, William Byron came home second at Circuit of The Americas, while Kyle Larson placed third at Sonoma Raceway in June.
