DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – On Wednesday, for the first time since 2022, NASCAR held a practice session prior to qualifying for the DAYTONA 500.
For the most part, cars did single-lap, mock-qualifying runs with a few exceptions. Among the Hendrick Motorsports contingent, Kyle Larson laid down the fastest lap time at 49.124, good enough for 14th on the board. Alex Bowman's best lap was a 49.222, William Byron turned in a 49.246 and Chase Elliott's best circuit was 49.334.
Hendrick Motorsports has won eight of the last 10 DAYTONA 500 poles and 16 overall, most of any organization all time. Bowman is the active leader on the team with three, placing him one short of a four-way time for the most all time alongside Buddy Baker, Cale Yarborough and Bill Elliott.
Qualifying for the 2025 DAYTONA 500 will begin at 8:15 p.m. and will air on FS1. The top two starting positions for the Great American Race will be set with the field being split into one of two Duel at Daytona races on Thursday to determine the rest of the starting order.
Elliott will be the first Hendrick Motorsports car to roll off in qualifying after drawing the 29th position on Tuesday night. Larson will be the 32nd car to go with Bowman going 35th and Byron 39th.
Speedweek all culminates with Sunday’s 67th running of the DAYTONA 500 at 2:30 p.m.
