DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Again, Mother Nature intervened on Speedweek at Daytona International Speedway.

But not before a pair of Hendrick Motorsports cars rocketed to the top of the leaderboard.

Defending race winner William Byron and Chase Elliott turned in the two best laps of the second practice session ahead of Sunday’s 67th running of the DAYTONA 500. Byron’s time of 46.172 seconds topped the board with Elliott just behind at 46.21.

The session, originally scheduled for 50 minutes but was cut around 19 minutes short due to a light shower on the race track.

Byron nearly won his Duel at Daytona race on Thursday, finishing second in the first race and securing the fifth starting position in Sunday’s main event. Elliott will roll of 17th.

Kyle Larson turned in the ninth-best time of the session with Alex Bowman in 18th.
