CONCORD, N.C. - On Thursday, Hendrick Motorsports was heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of teammate and friend, Jon Edwards.
A giant in the race media and public relations fields for three decades, Edwards worked alongside organization vice chairman Jeff Gordon throughout his illustrious career. After working in and around the company since the mid 1990s, Edwards officially joined Hendrick Motorsports in 2021 and was promoted to director of racing communications the following year. He's worked closely with current driver, Kyle Larson since.
An alum of the University of North Carolina, Edwards was a role model for those looking to break into the marketing world on the race team side. He was a winner of the NASCAR Public Relations Representative of the Year Award, the National Motorsports Press Association Ken Patterson Helping Others Award as well as the Jim Chapman Award for career-long excellence in motorsports public relations.
But above that, his warm and welcoming kindness, infectious sense of humor, wealth of knowledge and stories and his unwavering passion for the sport and his profession endeared him to all. He was beloved within the walls at Hendrick Motorsports and far beyond them.
A consummate professional, a true conversationalist and an unforgettable soul, drivers, dignitaries, race teams and media members poured onto social media throughout Thursday evening to pay respects and offer condolences.
Here are some of those posts.
RIP, friend.
