INDIANAPOLIS -- Jeff Gordon drove his No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS to the second-fastest time during qualifying Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Gordon will start Sunday's Brickyard 400 in second.
In the No. 5 Time Warner Cable Chevrolet SS, Kasey Kahne was the next fastest of the Hendrick Motorsports cars and will start in the 10th position. Just behind him will be Jimmie Johnson, whose No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet SS qualified 11th, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet SS, who will take the green flag from the 23rd spot.
"First it starts with the preparation of an awesome race car. That's what we have this weekend," Gordon told ESPN. "What an incredible Axalta Chevy SS that we have this weekend. So I'm excited about that first and foremost."
"Qualifying is so huge here, so to be on that front row at Indy 20 years after the first one, I get excited about that, what can I say?"
