Getting to know Cody Plemmons, engineer for the No. 48 team

CONCORD, N.C. - Six years ago, Cody Plemmons began his career at Hendrick Motorsports handling parts in the engine department. Today he's an assistant race engineer on Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet. Meet Cody:

Full name: Benjamin “Cody” Plemmons 

Nickname: Colby, from [car chief] Ron Malec. No one really knows where he comes up with people’s nicknames, but he always thinks of something.

Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.

Education: I received my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  

Team/Job duties: Assistant race engineer on the No. 48 Lowe’s team. 

Time at current job:  Three years. 

Years in racing: Six. 

First racing job: I worked in the parts department in the Hendrick Motorsports Engine Shop.

First job overall: Waiter at Cabarrus Country Club.

Best racing memory: Spring 2009 win with Jimmie Johnson at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

Favorite track: Dover (Del.) International Speedway. 

Favorite Hendrick Motorsports win: Jimmie Johnson’s 2009 win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. 

Hobbies outside of racing: Snowboarding, weightlifting, college sports, the beach, and family. 

Favorite sport other than racing: Football.

On an off weekend you can find me: Relaxing and grilling out.  

Favorite vacation spot: At the lake or ocean.  

Favorite movie: "The Hangover."

Favorite book: “The Shack” by William P. Young.

Favorite TV show: Law and Order.

Favorite music: Blues.

Best concert you’ve ever been to: A Guns N’ Roses cover band.

Dream car: Beat up rat rod.

What you’ll find on my iPod: Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, Biggie Smalls.

Favorite phone app: Just texting. 

If I could meet anyone, I’d meet: George W. Bush. 

Favorite food: Tacos.

If I ran NASCAR, I’d: Have a few more off weekends.

One thing people don’t know about me:  I’m afraid of heights. 

Before the race, I always: Eat popsicles. 

During a pit stop, I’m thinking: I’ve got to catch the catch can from Brandon Harder (gas man on the No. 48 Lowe’s team.) 

I knew I wanted a job in NASCAR when: I was in college because I wanted to enjoy what I did.

Best part of your job: Winning. 

Favorite Hendrick Motorsports paint scheme: The No. 48 Lowe’s/Jimmie Johnson Foundation Chevrolet that Jimmie Johnson drove at Auto Club Speedway in Fall 2008. We started from the pole that day and won the race, too.
