WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Watkins Glen International now will be held Monday at 10 a.m. ET on ESPN. The 90-lap event was postponed Sunday after rain showers stubbornly stuck around the area all afternoon.
When the race begins, Jimmie Johnson will start fourth. His Hendrick Motorsports teammates will begin in the top 25, with Jeff Gordon in 17th, Mark Martin in 22nd and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rolling off the grid in 25th.
The rescheduled race also will feature an added change to pit stops, and this change will remain in effect for the remainder of the season. In addition to backward pit stops, which are typical for the road course, fans might notice something a little different with the fuelers approaching the cars. Per a new NASCAR rule, the gas men cannot assist with other adjustments
"In an ongoing effort to keep pit road safer, we have made this adjustment to the duties of the fuel handler,” said NASCAR Sprint Cup Series director John Darby. “If the fueler's only responsibility is to fuel the car, he will do a better job and make fewer mistakes on pit road.”
