2015 Sprint Unlimited format announced

CONCORD, N.C. -- As the 2015 Sprint Cup Series season inches closer and closer, NASCAR on Thursday announced the format for this year's 75-lap Sprint Unlimited.

The non-points race, which is scheduled for an 8:15 start on Saturday, Feb. 14, will be divided into two segments. The first segment will last 25 laps, followed by a competition caution, then the final 50 laps will comprise the second segment.

For the first time in 2015, fans will be paired with each crew chief for the drawing that determines starting and pit road positions. The drawing will take place on Friday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m.

“Anticipation for the start of the NASCAR season is at an all-time high among fans and drivers,” said NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell. “Fans have a unique opportunity to participate in key elements of the event, making this year’s Sprint Unlimited even more exciting.”

Kasey Kahne, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are included in the 25-driver field for the Sprint Unlimited.

The race will be live on FOX, Motor Racing Network Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
