Gordon's daughter Ella also will make her debut at Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga. (Aug. 31, 2010) – Just like her father, a second-generation Gordon will make her NASCAR Cup Series debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In November of 1992, Jeff Gordon drove a brightly painted No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet in the season finale in Atlanta in his first start in NASCAR’s premier division. Nearly 18 years later at the same track but on a different track configuration, Gordon’s three-year old daughter Ella will make her debut as paint scheme “designer” for the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. Ella, with the assistance of some finishing touches by NASCAR’s first officially licensed artist Sam Bass, created the design for “My Papa’s Car” which Gordon will drive on Sunday night. The design features the new logo of the newly renamed Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation. Click here to view the specially painted No. 24 DuPont/Jeff Gordon Foundation Chevrolet. “I can’t wait to run Ella and Sam’s design, and I can’t think of a better way to showcase the new Foundation logo and name than on that car,” Gordon said. “DuPont has graciously allowed us to run this scheme during one of their races, and I really appreciate their continued support of the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation in its efforts to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.” In 36 starts at the Georgia track, Gordon has four victories, two pole positions, 14 top-five finishes and 23 top-10s. While the track configuration has changed since his first race here, the current 1.54-mile layout is one Gordon enjoys racing on. “I think the racing is great here -- for the drivers and the fans,” Gordon said. “It’s a fast track with multiple grooves in the corners, so that gives the drivers options whether they are trying to get past another car or trying different lines to find one that works for your setup.” Gordon, the second driver to earn a berth in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, has two more chances to accrue the 10 additional bonus points awarded for each victory before the standings are reset following race No. 26 at Richmond. “We’ve had a heck of a season and I’m really glad to be in the ‘Chase’ again,” Gordon said. “We haven’t won yet, but I really believe we have a good chance to win the championship. Right now, this DuPont team’s focus is on getting wins and bonus points, and I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s race. I think we have a great shot to win Sunday night. “We want to head into the final 10 races with momentum, and a win sure would help us do that.”
