KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Last weekend, Kasey Kahne drove the No. 5 LiftMaster Chevrolet SS for the third time this season, and he teamed up with the Hendrick Motorsports partner to make it an important weekend even before he finished fourth on the track.
At Kansas Speedway, Kahne presented a check for $15,000 on behalf of LiftMaster to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), bringing the yearly total to $55,000 in honor of fallen firefighters.
LiftMaster is a longtime supporter of the NFFF, and partnered with the nonprofit again to raise funding that assists the organization in its mission to provide resources to the fallen firefighters’ survivors in rebuilding their lives and work within the fire service community while also reducing firefighter deaths and injuries.
Some of that funding took place earlier this season, when LiftMaster donated $1 each for fans that "liked" the company's Facebook page.
The ceremony at Kansas began with a moment of silence for Larry J. Leggio and John V. Mesh, Kansas City firefighters who died in the line of duty.
Kahne was joined onstage by Marlene and Richard Moore, parents of fallen firefighter Jared Moore, and Pam Burditt and Darlene Mansfield, sister and mother of fallen firefighter Mark Mansfield.
They accepted the check on the NFFF's behalf.
