RIDGEWAY, Va. -- Kasey Kahne will take the green flag Sunday at Martinsville Speedway from the front row.

The driver of the No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS raced his way to a second-place start in the final round of Friday afternoon's qualifying session.

"It feels good. The car was really fast, this Great Clips Chevrolet," Kahne said. "I just kept getting better with my laps."

It marks Kahne's first front-row start of the season, and he was just .002 seconds away from the pole-sitter.

"It was close -- Joey (Logano) just barely got us," Kahne smiled. "But definitely a good starting spot. That was one of my goals today."

Chase Elliott will join him in the top 10 after also making the final round and qualifying 10th.

All four Hendrick Motorsports teammates advanced past the first round of qualifying, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson did not continue on to the third and final round.

Earnhardt will start Sunday's race in the 21st position, while Johnson will roll off the grid 24th.
