CONCORD, N.C. -- Martinsville Speedway will always be a special track for Chase Elliott.

After all, it's where he made his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut.

One of Elliott's five points-paying Cup races run in 2015, Martinsville now becomes the first track where the rookie will race in 2016 with a Cup start already under his belt.

"The only thing that I have to go off of is the spring race and it wasn’t very good for me," Elliott said.

Driving his NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet SS, he was caught up in an incident during a restart early in the race that sent him back to the garage. He returned to the track and ultimately finished 38th.

But he said he can still learn from that experience.

"I’m just trying to look back on that and fix some of the mistakes I made and improve upon that," he said. "That’s all I can ask for.”
