CONCORD, N.C. -- Tuesday morning, an interesting development on Twitter sparked some social media intrigue.
It all began when a "fan" tweeted out what appeared to be a video of Chase Elliott talking with No. 24 team crew chief Alan Gustafson over the weekend at Dover International Speedway.
The two seemed to be discussing Elliott racing with teammate Jimmie Johnson at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, which does not host any NASCAR events.
From there, the track -- home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix -- responded to the video before Elliott himself got involved in the fray.
Did the Hendrick Motorsports teammates really face off at Circuit of the Americas?
Then it all began to make sense, as it was announced that a NASCAR Expansion for Forza Motorsport 6 was set to be released. It brought America’s most popular form of motor sport to the best-selling racing franchise of this generation.
As it turned out, Elliott and Johnson had both had a chance to play the game, even having a role in its development.
In the NASCAR Expansion, players will be able to drive 24 2016-season NASCAR models -- including all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers. Johnson and Elliott also serve as two of the stars of the “Voices of Motorsport” in the game, introducing fans to the history and technology of NASCAR.
NASCAR.com even provided some behind-the-scenes footage of Johnson and Elliott trying their hand at the expansion, including some in-game footage.
As for the mysterious fan, we may never know his true identity.
Even more coverage of the Forza 6 NASCAR Expansion will be available in the coming days on HendrickMotorsports.com, so stay tuned.
