CONCORD, N.C. -- For six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, it's all about balancing racing, his family life and his passion for fitness.
Recently, Johnson sat down with the Harvard Business Review and discussed a variety of topics, including the importance of teamwork among his No. 48 Lowe's team and his role as the driver.
"The real magic is in the chemistry and collaboration between the driver, the team, and the crew chief, who is like a head coach in other sports," Johnson explained. "I have to verbalize the sensations I feel in the car, and the team has to absorb and digest that information and make the right changes."
Among the subjects broached were the evolution of the sport and its drivers, mentally preparing for a race and handling on-track rivalries.
Johnson also talked about his outlook on the future of his Sprint Cup career and how long he plans to stay behind the wheel of a race car.
"I’ve been working very hard to take care of myself physically, and I know I have years left, for sure," the 40-year-old driver said.
