CONCORD, N.C. -- Next up on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule is Kansas Speedway.
Hendrick Motorsports has totals of six wins, 28 top-five finishes, 48 top-10s and five poles at the 1.5-mile track. Its drivers have also led 1,071 laps around the Kansas City, Kansas, oval.
Before the cars hit the track, take a look back at a few notable trips to Kansas.
2001 - 2003: Jeff Gordon finished inside the top five in the first three races at Kansas Speedway. In the inaugural race on Sept. 30, 2001, Jeff Gordon took the green flag in second and led 53 laps en route to victory. One year later on Sept. 29, 2002, Gordon rolled off the grid in 10th and led a race-high 116 laps before taking the checkered flag for his second Kansas win in a row. Although the win eluded him in 2003, Gordon finished in fifth-place after starting in seventh. However, his top-five streak came to an end in 2004 when he finished in 13th.
Sept. 28, 2008: Jimmie Johnson's most recent pole position at the 1.5-mile track was eight years ago. At a speed of 172.007 mph, Johnson laid down the fastest one-lap time of 31.394-seconds to land himself on the front row for the green flag. The pole was the driver's third at the oval and he went on to take the checkered flag in first as well.
2015: At both the May and October Kansas races last year, two Hendrick Motorsports drivers finished third and fourth each time. In May, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon finished third and fourth consecutively, while in October it was Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne.
