CONCORD, N.C. -- Earlier this week, we saw Richard Petty -- one of the men Jimmie Johnson tied with seven NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships -- give his take on Johnson's historic journey to #se7en.
Now that the driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet SS has accomplished the feat, the driver next in line in the all-time championship standings has chimed in.
Former Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon -- who has four titles, the next-highest total behind Johnson, Petty and Dale Earnhardt's seven -- has narrated a video posted by NASCAR on FOX.
In it, he talks about all three men in the seven-time club.
"Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Jimmie Johnson -- heart, talent, character and class," Gordon says. "I count myself lucky to have raced them all, and I'm both proud and privileged to have known them all. Jimmie, I couldn't be more proud of all you've achieved."
Watch the full segment below, in which Gordon also discusses the notion that Johnson is his protégé.
"My deep, sincere thanks if you see it that way," he narrates. "But I also have to say, 'No, thanks.' Because I can't, and won't, take credit for what Jimmie has accomplished."
