LAS VEGAS -- While a top-10 finish eluded Dale Earnhardt Jr. Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he was proud of the way the No. 88 team finished the race, taking home a 16th-place result.
He earned bonus race points during both Stage 1 and Stage 2, as well, by taking the green checkered flags inside the top 10.
"We did get in the top 10 a couple of times to get some extra points there during the day, so that helps us out as well,” Earnhardt said.
It didn't hurt that the weather was beautiful, either.
"The weather is great out here," Earnhardt said after the race. "This is a great racetrack. Awesome that they are going to be coming here twice a year in the future -- that is going to be great for the sport."
Looking ahead at the remainder of the West Coast swing, the driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet SS said his hopes are high that even better results will follow.
"We are just looking forward to the next couple of races," he said. "I really like Fontana. Certainly, have had a great car at Phoenix the last several times. Try to keep on chipping away and grabbing some points."
