Johnson hopes new car equals success at Michigan

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 10, 2008) -- Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, will try to mark another track off his list this weekend when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visits Michigan International Speedway. Johnson already has posted wins at 16 of the 22 racetracks in the Sprint Cup Series circuit. Johnson has had successful runs at MIS in the past, but has yet to reach Victory Lane. He has gathered two top-five finishes, five top-10s and earned a pole position in 12 starts at the two-mile D-shaped track. This time, however, Johnson and his fellow Sprint Cup competitors will race in the new car, and Johnson hopes the Chevrolet Impala SS will benefit him during the 400-mile event. “Being in the new car, we may be able to find something we never have before,” Johnson said. “That’s one thing about these cars – all the notes we’ve had in the past kind of go out the window and you start fresh in a sense.”
