CONCORD, N.C. – Tuesday afternoon Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced his decision to retire from the NASCAR Cup Series following the 2017 season.

Even though Earnhardt will not be behind the wheel in 2018, he won’t be a stranger to Hendrick Motorsports or the No. 88 team.

Greg Ives, crew chief of the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS, shared his thoughts on Earnhardt’s future involvement in the sport.

“Him taking a step back from driving doesn’t mean he takes a step back from racing,” Ives said. “I am going to continue to enjoy that friendship, that guidance, even after Homestead when he takes his last lap. I know he will be there for not only myself but the whole race team to help that transition and develop going into next year.”
