NEW YORK, N.Y. (Dec. 20, 2007) — Multi-platinum recording artist Nick Lachey and two-time reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson announced today the first annual Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic to be held in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Feb. 2, prior to Super Bowl XLII.
Proceeds from the event, a special Super Skins Online Auction and Super Skins Party, will benefit multiple charities, including the Nick Lachey Foundation and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, both of which are dedicated to assisting children, families and communities in need throughout the United States.
Lachey and Johnson have pledged $125,000 each to the Super Skins tournament, which brings the amount pledged to charity so far to over $400,000.
“Jimmie and I have always wanted to work together in order to raise awareness, and of course money, for deserving causes,” said Lachey. “I’m proud to join Jimmie to use the excitement and attention around the Super Bowl to do some good.”
“I consider myself very fortunate and I’m sure Nick would agree,” said Johnson. “We’ve been looking for the right way to work together and give back, and I think this event is the perfect way for us to support worthy causes in a meaningful way.”
The Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic will challenge celebrities to win individual holes in a team-skins format. Each hole will have a $20,000 monetary value, and the celebrity team who wins the hole will designate their winnings for donation to the charity of their choice.
Lachey and Johnson have partnered with Prime Cuts Production for the Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic.
“We’re excited to partner with Nick and Jimmie for Super Skins,” stated Charles Martin, president of Prime Cuts Production. “Our combined passion for sports fueled by the prospect of directing funds to a lot of worthy causes will make this the ultimate event.”
Joining Lachey and Johnson on the green will be some of the biggest stars of stage, screen and sport. The Annual Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic will continue on to Tampa in 2009 and Miami in 2010.
A special Super Skins Online Auction through eBay Giving Works -- www.ebay.com/jimmiejohnsonfoundation –- features once-in-a-lifetime fan experiences, including a chance to win a spot on Lachey and Johnson’s foursome during the Super Skins tournament.
The auction also includes classic celebrity and sports memorabilia such as a signed Rusty Wallace No. 2 worn Miller Lite fire suit, signed Brandon Webb No. 17 custom cleats and a signed Matt Leinart replica No. 7 jersey.
Lachey and Johnson will kick off Super Skins weekend along with their friends and fans with the ultimate Super Skins Party at Axis Radius, Scottsdale’s premier nightclub. Monster Ink will partner with the pair to host the event. Tickets will be available through www.teamonetickets.com/superskins or by calling 800-800-9494 starting Saturday, Dec. 22 and are open to the public.
