LONG POND, Pa. – Stage 2 is in the books at Pocono Raceway and two Hendrick Motorsports teammates finished inside the top 10.
Elliott started Stage 2 from seventh and continued to gain track position. He took the green-checkered flag in fifth and scored six bonus points.
Kasey Kahne restarted Stage 2 from 14th position. He worked his way into the top 10 and finished the stage in ninth, picking up two bonus points.
Late in Stage 2, Jimmie Johnson experienced a brake issue and the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet SS made hard contact with the wall.
"I can only speculate that I had the brakes too hot," Johnson said. "I'm fine. Certainly a big scare."
The incident ended Johnson's day, and he was scored 36th at the conclusion of Stage 2.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. headed to the garage in Stage 2 after the No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS experienced a transmission failure.
“This isn’t a common issue, but it has been this weekend,” Earnhardt said. “The car was fast. We drove up into the top 15 there running great lap times.”
He was scored 38 at the end of the segment.
Kyle Larson won the stage.
The race will conclude with a final 60-lap segment.
