CONCORD, N.C. – One of the most important parts of any athlete’s routine is staying hydrated.
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson knows a thing or two about hydration thanks to Gatorade.
Last week, Johnson visited New York City to promote the new Gatorade Endurance formula and participated in a program at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute.
The testing has helped him determine exactly how much liquid he needs to take in to stay hydrated during long races when temperatures inside the car can reach 145 degrees.
“I feel like in the race car itself I can outperform people from a stronger mental perspective,” Johnson said. “It’s really been an amazing advantage to have here lately.”
While inside his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS Johnson uses a Gatorade in-car drinking system that allows him to fuel up with Gatorade through a tube that feeds into his helmet.
