SPARTA, Ky. – After 120 laps at Kentucky Speedway, Chase Elliott scored a top-10 Stage 2 finish.
Elliott started Stage 2 from the ninth position and finished 10th, picking up a single bonus point.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the green flag in 11th and spent the entire stage knocking on the door of the top 10 but closed out Stage 2 in 12th.
Jimmie Johnson was caught in an incident with two competitors just after the field took the green flag, signaling the start of Stage 2, that ended his night early. He was scored 40th.
“The car felt great. I feel like we were probably in position for a good top five,” Johnson said. “I really thought I had him missed and I just clipped him with my right front that broke something in the suspension.”
Shortly after the field restarted, the caution came out once again due to Kasey Kahne and a separate competitor making contact with each other before the No. 5 Mountain Dew Chevrolet SS connected with the wall. He was scored 38th.
Martin Truex Jr. won the stage.
The race will conclude with a final 107-lap segment.
