CONCORD, N.C. -- Sunday, NBC’s “Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist” aired an in-depth interview with Dale Earnhardt Jr.
In the “Sunday Sitdown” entitled “Dale Earnhardt Jr. on love, loss and walking away,” the driver provided insight into what his father meant – and still means – to him, and what it was like the day he lost him.
“He just was everybody’s hero, and it didn’t take him long when he would meet a new person that he would have that impact on them,” Earnhardt said. “People loved him.”
He discussed his relationship with his wife, Amy, and what she has meant to his life, noting that he is “absolutely” a different person since meeting her.
“I didn’t just change immediately – it took a while,” he said. “She’s made me smarter, kinder, more thoughtful person. Not just for her – for everyone.”
Earnhardt also shared whether he has any fear when he climbs behind the wheel of the No. 88 Chevrolet SS, his upcoming job as an NBC Sports analyst and whether this might be a “Michael Jordan retirement” where he comes back after a little time away.
“I don’t think so,” he smiled. “The travel and being away from my family and my life, and I want to experience raising a child and just be normal.”
