RICHMOND, Va. -- Chase Elliott led the way for his Hendrick Motorsports teammates in Friday evening's qualifying session.
Just barely missing the top spot, Elliott landed his No. 9 NAPA Brakes Camaro ZL1 in second for the start of Saturday's race.
Joining Elliott in the final round of qualifying were William Byron and Alex Bowman. Byron grabbed a top-10 starting position and will roll off the grid tomorrow in ninth, followed closely by Bowman in 11th.
Johnson joined his three teammates in the second round of qualifying, but his Round 2 lap times just weren't enough to advance to the final round. He will take tomorrow's green flag in 17th.
Martin Truex Jr. won the pole.
