CONCORD, N.C. – On Aug. 1, 2004, Jimmie Johnson found Victory Lane at Pocono Raceway to complete a season sweep of the “Tricky Triangle.”
Starting the event 14th, Johnson took the lead by Lap 32. He paced the field from that point, leading 124 laps of the 200-lap event, including all but one of the final 62 circuits.
Johnson led 250 total laps between his two 2004 victories at the “Tricky Triangle” to help earn Hendrick Motorsports its ninth and 10th victories at the 2.5-mile track.
Fast forward to 2013, Johnson captured another win at the Pennsylvania track, earning his third win at the venue and the organization’s 14th of 17th victories at Pocono.
As the NASCAR Cup Series returns to Pocono Raceway this Sunday, Johnson is set to make his 600th career Cup Series start.
He’ll become one of 30 drivers to reach the milestone and the 10th Hendrick Motorsports driver to accomplish the feat.
"I'm not huge into milestones but I can't believe I am sitting here at 600 starts," Johnson said. "All I ever wanted to do was win a race and now we are here with seven championships, 83 wins and hopefully there are many more to come."
Richard Petty owns the all-time wins record through 600 starts with 150 victories, followed by Darrell Waltrip with 84. Johnson’s 83 wins would rank third, followed by Jeff Gordon with 82.
